Letters from Robert N. Boyd, PhD. -- on being, direct experience, adaptation etc. ( part IV )

Change is the third angle in the Universal Problem Solving equation. As we are exploring the problem and the situation surrounding the problem, we often discover that in order to solve the problem with a solution that works reliably, we need to change something, to make adjustments, or to adapt to the circumstances.

We cannot rely on Control to force the problem do be solved, as force, applied in many situations, only amplifies whatever struggles are existing, so the problem is experienced as an ever-increasing struggle, rather than a series of easy actions that get the repair done.

We are looking for what works. So we make changes and adjustments, as needed, until the problem is solved.

Another way of looking  at this, is we are looking for what are the most Harmonious acts, which eventually accomplish a Harmonious result.

In fact, Harmony is so important in problem solving I am going to relabel the triangle as

                                          Awareness

                             Control                  Harmony

Harmony often requires changes must happen so that all involved in the problem eventually results in mutual comfort and a reliable solution.

So we use Awareness to discover what is the most Harmonious and then we use Control to make that happen.

All Best Wishes,

Neil
