Science didn't kill God. ..

The real conflict is not between science and Christianity. The real conflict is between Christianity and naturalism.

Science is a method for studying the natural world. Naturalism is a worldview claiming that nature is all there is. Those are not the same thing. Science asks how the natural world works. Naturalism insists, before the discussion even begins, that nothing exists beyond nature. When those two are confused, science is made to draw philosophical conclusions it cannot support.

That confusion has done great damage. Many young people are led to believe that science has disproved God when naturalism has simply ruled Him out before considering the evidence.

Critics often begin with Genesis. They point out that Scripture does not describe creation in the language of modern physics, chemistry, astronomy, or biology. Genesis does not speak of cosmic expansion, molecular machines, or genetic code. It says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth,” but it does not give equations, mechanisms, or a modern scientific timeline.

Then critics conclude that if the Bible does not speak like a science textbook, it must be outdated. Some go further and argue that science has now explained what religion once tried to explain. The universe no longer needs a creator. Life no longer needs design. Human beings no longer need a soul. God becomes a leftover idea from a bygone era.

But that argument rests on a false premise. It assumes that if science can describe how nature works, then God is no longer needed. Yet explaining how something works is not the same as explaining why it exists.

A scientist may explain how a violin produces sound. That does not explain why the music was written. A mechanic may explain how an engine runs. That does not explain why the car was built. In the same way, science can describe processes within creation, but it cannot by itself answer why there is a creation at all.

This is why young Christians should not be taught to fear science. They should be taught to embrace true science.

If God created the universe, then studying creation is not rebellion. It is a way of looking more closely at the work of His hands. True science does not erase God. It reveals the order, intelligibility, beauty, and depth of the world He made.

Modern science grew largely within a Christian view of nature: the belief that creation is orderly, rational, and worthy of study because it reflects the wisdom of its Creator. Many founders of modern science, including Kepler, Newton, Boyle, Pascal, and Faraday, saw no contradiction between scientific work and belief in God. Their faith did not hinder them from pursuing science; it helped inspire their quests.

Scripture is answering deeper questions: Who created? Why does creation exist?
