Why Elijah #3 is coming

Tim McHyde:

True Prophet vs False Prophet: How to Tell When Elijah Comes?

Among the many end time prophecies that are not expected by Christians, one of my favorite discoveries is this one:
And Jesus answered and said unto them, "Elijah truly shall first come, and restore all things" — (Mt 17:11).
Right there in the words of Jesus we are told to expect another version of Malachi's "Elijah the prophet" (Mal 4:5-6). Yet most of us have never been told this, let alone how to identify him when he comes. Christians expect Jesus first and only. But Jesus said to expect Elijah "first."

How did we miss this? Well, it's not so simple. In the NT there are four contradictory statements about Elijah by Gabriel, John the Baptist and Jesus. Two statements say John the Baptist is Elijah and two say he is not, or to expect another. Confusing!

You may have noticed this dilemma and given up on making sense of it, like many other confusing parts of the Bible. But you can understand if you plug in the Biblical concept of a dual prophecy.
